Description

Celebration Dances is a tableau portraying the progress from inspiration, through to realisation via perseverance.
The first movement – Pompa is a youthful March, the second – Tempus Fugit – a dreamy Sarabande and finally – Gaudeamus – a Gigue in five beats to the bar where everyone lets their hair down!
A late friend of the composer, Arthur Goodchild, arranged the student song Gaudeamus Igitur in a set of part songs for male voices. The use of the theme at the end of the third movement is intended to be a small tribute to him.
