Pageantry was written for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2012. It captures the pomp and ceremony of State and Royal occasions. Having spent 26 years of his life in military music making, it was a piece very long in the making for the composer!
The piece opens with a fanfare feature, which acts as link throughout the piece between the sections of the work. The first melodic section is written using the Dorian mode, giving it a minor feel. It gives the music a regal yet traditional feel.
After the fanfare link, this theme is developed using the two main melodies of the opening section before moving into a Major Key section reminiscent of a Coronation or other Royal occasion, before concluding with the fanfare feature again.
